My picks of beer news from around the web that you need to read and my two cents on the topics. Most of the time it’s Hawaii beer news topics, but every once in a while you’ll find other general beer related topics.
World Beer Cup – Congratulations to Thomas Kerns and the team at Big Island Brewhaus for capturing 2 bronze medals at the 2014 World Beer Cup. Overboard IPA and Golden Sabbath snagged medals in the American Style Strong Pale Ale (97 entries) and Other Belgian Style Ale (55 entries) respectively. Both of these amazing beers can be found statewide in 22oz bottles, so if you haven’t tried them you should! http://bit.ly/1gTwUr9
Honolulu Pulse – Honolulu Beerworks opened its doors last night to a completely packed house. If you couldn’t make it here is a great article to get you warmed up and ready. http://bit.ly/1kHUwXZ
BeerPulse – Goose Island Endless IPA will soon be arriving in Hawaii. This is a new session IPA that clocks in at only 5.0% abv and a mere 35 IBUs. This appears to be a single hop beer, all Amarillo, and has a very simple and light malt base. I’m personally a huge fan of lower abv IPA/hoppy pale ales and although this wasn’t the best session IPA I’ve ever had, it was very enjoyable. It light bodied enough to quinch your thirst and enjoy more than one, while still full of hop aroma. There is a very soft bitterness that leans more towards grassy/minty/floral than the citrusy notes I’d expect from Amarillo. http://bit.ly/1glp5uV
Coronado Patch – Coronado Brewing Company is releasing replacing spring seasonal Hoppy Daze with Frog’s Breath this year. Hawaii will be seeing both bottles and draft of this unfiltered IPA brewed with kafir lime, citrus zest and spices. http://bit.ly/1eyFOKN
Beer Street Journal – Widmer Brothers, one of the original craft breweries in the country, is celebrating their 30th birthday this year with a slew of amazing collaboration brews with other Oregon Breweries. Hawaii is set to receive a very limited about of these unique one off beers. The first release is a collaboration with Boneyard and is Black IPA or CDA hopped with Alchemy, Nelson Sauvin, Amarillo, Summer, Citra. I’ve been told Hawaii can expect to see more limited releases from Widmer over the next year. http://bit.ly/1eyG5x9
