Welcome to the HI Beer Blast, your weekly guide to what’s new at Hawaii’s best craft beer bars, restaurants, brewpubs and more. You’ll also find info on local beer events. New blasts go out every week on Thursdays.

1. Pint + Jigger
Events:

Wednesday, April 3rd, 6pm – BEER AND CHEESE tasting with GRANT CURLOW, Cicerone Certified, and STEPHEN SMITH, Beer and Cheese Specialist, Whole Foods Market Kahala Mall. This amazing meld of flavors will take place in the BEER GARDEN at PINT + JIGGER from 6PM sharp. A delicious 5 tier coupling of curds and brews is set to satisfy your cravings and curiosity. We are extremely excited to have Grant and Stephen navigate your wonders through this feast of fermentation. It’s a “first-come-first-served” seating situation. You are guaranteed a seat but it’d be easier to sit together if you come together. Purchase tickets here!

Beer and Cheese Lineup
First Pairing:  Cahill Original Irish Porter Cheese w/ Ballast Point Black Marlin
-Mild Irish cheddar handcrafted with real Porter beer brewed at St. James Gate, Dublin.
-A modern-style Porter with rich bittersweet chocolate notes and an assertive hop profile.
Second Pairing:  L’ Explorateur served on 34 Degrees Wafers w/ Samuel Smith Apricot
-Soft Ripened French Triple Cream with a bloomy rind and a delicate buttery cream. The crème de la crème.
– USDA Organic Ale brewed with fresh apricots and packaged at a brewery that dates back to 1758 A.D.
Third Pairing:  Unie Kaas Parrano served with Fra Mani Toscano Salami on 365 Organic Water Crackers w/ Rochefort 6
-A semi-firm Dutch Gouda designed with the classic savory, nutty characteristics of Italian Parmesan.
– An almost Belgian Dubbel from one of only eight Trappist breweries in the world and dates back to 1230 A.D.
Fourth Pairing:  Sini Fulvi Taleggio w/ Etienne Dupont Organic Cidre
-A washed-rind, smear ripened Italian classic whose at first offensive odors are begotten by the deliciously tart and mellow cream flavors.
– Unfined and Unfiltered. Etienne Dupont’s Ciders come from the world famous region of Pays d’Auge, Normandy, France.
Fifth Pairing:  Point Reyes Original Blue served with Walnuts w/ JW Lees Port Cask Aged Harvest Ale
-Farmhouse semi-soft raw Blue Cheese whose rich milk white body interplays effortlessly with the distinctly sharp, tangy flavors of its blue veins.
-A strong English Barleywine brewed once a year then aged in previously used Willoughby’s Finest Reserve Port barrels.

2. Real a Gastropub

Monday April 1st, 6:30pm – SAMUEL ADAMS BEER DINNER with Johnny Vaccaro, Sam Adam’s Hawaii District Manager

Course 1:  White Lantern Wit Cured Salmon, Ka’u Orange Segments, Goat Cheese Foam.  Paired with Samuel Adams White Lantern Wit

Course 2:  Crispy Pig Head Torchon, Samuel Adams Mustard Aioli, Local Kale.  Paired with Samuel Adams New World Tripel

Course 3:  Samuel Adams BBQ Baby Back Ribs, Boston Baked Beans, Jalapeno/Farmhouse Cheddar Cornbread.  Paired with Samuel Adams Boston Lager

Course 4:  Cheesecake with Salted Caramel, Honey Macadamia Nuts. Paired with Samuel Adams Griffins Bow

Cost: $40 per person plus tax and gratuity

Friday, March 29, 6pm – SOUR BEER NIGHT with Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales. We are happy to host Jolly Pumpkin Artisian Ales from Dexter, Michigan for an evening of amazing sour ales. Captain Ron is one of the nation’s leaders in open fermentation, barrell aging and bottle conditioning. We couldn’t be happier to offer four draughts and one bottle conditioned ales. These beers have never been to the Big Island and no one has ever done a sour beer event before, so I can’t express how excited we are to offer these unique selections!
