UPDATE 09/03/12 – They have met their funding goal on Kickstarter raising $51,824 as of today.

The craft beer scene in Hawaii is rapidly growing and we could soon see another new brewery opening in Honolulu. Stewbum & Stonewall Brewing Company has hopes of opening a 7 to 15 barrel brewery and taproom in the Honolulu area sometime in the summer of 2014.

The brewery launched a Kickstarter campaign today to help finance the project. Owners and cousins Darren Garvey and Eric Jackson are looking to raise $50,000 dollars on the crowd funding site that they will be combined with other traditional sources of financing to start the brewery. Kickstarter donors will receive various “swag” or rewards for their donations (by law crowd sourcing donations cannot be used to purchase stock or ownership in companies.) Donation levels start as low as $10.

Stewbum & Stonewall Brewing Company’s Kickstarter page lists that the brewery plans on brewing 6 flagship beers: a Belgian Style Wheat, an American Pale Ale, an India Pale Ale, an American Amber Lager, a Bitter Ale, and an Oatmeal Stout, as well as a rotation of seasonal/experimental beers. They also plan on serving other locally brewed beers in their taproom with the goal of creating a hub of local craft beer for beer lovers and novices.

  1. Yes the craft beer scene in Hawaii is rapidly growing and we hope to see another new brewery opening in Volcano on the Big Island. There is a property that has in place a transferable Special Use Permits approved by the County of Hawaii for development of a brewery and a beer garden/visitors center. We all know successful beer or spirit brands are about more than simply the line of beers or alcohol they brew. Brands that have the ability to invoke a memory, make a personal statement, or simply offer something so unique it must be tried and also has a leg up on the competition for consumer attention. The local consumer base has had the largest increase in population on the Island and local breweries are seeing double-digit growth.
This place is just waiting for the right Brewing Company to come over to the Big Island and make a Brewing Empire. A key ingredient in beer and spirits is the water and this property has something truly unique to blend with malt and hops. These two Keaau properties (1@2.9 acres and 1@ 2.4 acres) on the East side of the island sit on top of aquifers 8,000-12,000 feet below. Water so special and unique a successful water bottling operation has been distributing it for over a decade. The next owner will inherit the entitlements to a percentage of the water production.
The property is located just off of Highway 11 which is the main roadway connecting Hilo with Hawaii Volcano’s National Park and its estimated 1.35 million visitors per year.

Looking forward to having a local craft cold brew on my next vacation out to Volcano National Park.

    A hui hou,
    Rob
